#repsforvets 5K

On May 25th, #repsforvets will be having our very first annual 5K run to raise funds for Veterans Treatment Court. They need your help! There was a delay with the online form, but we’re ready to move!

Your very own Tulsa Veterans Treatment Court leads this country as a national mentoring program, i.e., we train other new and/or struggling programs from around the nation. More importantly, see below.

The Impact:

Saving Lives – 22 veterans each day take their own lives. Participants in VTC are surrounded by a team there to support them every step of the way. By the time veterans graduate from VTC, they’ve spent hundreds of hours receiving treatment for mental health, substance abuse and/or PTSD.

Saving Families – Many veterans that plea into VTC have little or no contact with their family, friends and even their own children. By the time they graduate, many of these vets have rebuilt bridges with friends, reconnected with family and some gain increased visitation with their children or even regain custody of children that they have lost.

Returning Veteran Heroes into their Community – 100% of graduates from VTC are employed or receiving benefits when they graduate, compared with about 50% being employed when they enter the program. This is not only important for the veteran, it also returns a tax-paying employee to the workforce and also provides employers with the opportunity to hire an individual that has already given of themselves for our country. VTC is also saving the community valuable dollars by keeping participants out of jail. It currently costs $60 a day to house an inmate in the Tulsa County Jail. This equates to $32,400 for an 18-month stint in jail, versus the approximate cost of $5,000 that the average time in VTC costs taxpayers.

How You Can Help:

1. Sign Up, Run, and Set the Example Isolation and in-activity is one of the biggest killers to our veterans after leaving active duty.

2. Spread the Word Online registration: http://www.yellowcheetah.com/repsforvets If each of you post this link—with an explanation--on your public/business Facebook page, private page your impact can be huge! Tweet it, post it on LinkedIn, etc.

3. We Still Need Sponsors: In particular the “Presenting Sponsor” Keep in mind this 5K will be an annual event and we’d love to have committed sponsors who really believe in supporting the veterans in our community.
