Native Youth Preventing Diabetes (NYPD) will be holding its annual free healthy habits camp (ages 8-12) June 10-14, 2019 at Camp Takatoka in Choteau, OK. ASTHS will be closed for Good Friday on Friday, April 19, 2019. However, the PlusCare Clinic will be open to see walk-in patients from 9:00 A.M. till 5:00 P.M. accepting the last patient at 4:30 P.M. The Absentee Shawnee Tribe is hosting a free tax preparation for AST tribal citizens, widows/widowers of AST tribal citizens and employees, who meet the low-to moderate maximum income threshold of $55,000, for tax year 2018. The location is at the Shawnee Clinic's Multi-purpose building, 2029 South Gordon Cooper Drive, every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m.
ASTHS administrative half-day is Wednesday, April 3, 2019 (first Wednesday of the month) and all AST Health facilities are closed from noon to 5:00 PM for trainings, departmental meetings and administrative tasks. Both the PlusCare and Shawnee Same Day Clinics will re-open at 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, accepting the last patient at 8:30 PM.
ASTHS Health Administration announces on April 1st through April 30th, the 2019 Summer Internship Program will be accepting applications from Native American students ages 16-22 who are interested in seeking a future career in the health field. Students will gain valuable insight in this 8-week, paid program. Applicants must be available Tuesdays through Thursdays/20 hours a week and carry a GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. The actual internship program begins June 3rd and will run through July 26th.
It is not too early to start thinking about summer activities for your kiddos. The Native American youth PINS 5 program will begin registering students from April 1st through May 10th on a first come, first serve basis (space is limited). Native American youth ages 10-14 who live within Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Cleveland counties are welcomed. The camp begins June 4th and runs through June 27th, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. till 4:00 P.M.
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe Election Commission will be holding its annual Primary Election on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the tribal complex and AST Resource Center. The Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health System (ASTHS) is always looking to improve healthcare and as part of this improvement and new convenience, Little Axe Health Center will begin offering patients a fast, easy, and secure way of checking-in for appointments through touchscreen kiosks beginning March 11, 2019. The Executive Committee has agree to close all businesses (complex closed) on Thursday, February 28, 2019, in honor of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe's first Governor under the AST's modern constitution, John Sloat. Governor Sloat started the pathway of our tribe in many areas. He served in the Korean War and 2 tours in the Vietnam War. He served his country with pride and honor earning several high commendations that included 2 silver stars and 2 bronze stars.
