Physical Activity Specialist
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the position is to assess fitness members’ readiness for physical activity. The Physical Activities Specialist must be able to provide and supervise physical activities, participates in the implementation of general fitness/activity requirements that encourage, support, and educate Native American people on lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life related to diabetes, the prevention of diabetes, and cardiovascular disease and other health related disease.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in performing evaluation and assessment of clientele readiness for physical activity and equipment.
Assists in the completion of physical fitness assessments and the development of exercise prescriptions for general members of the fitness facilities.
A workout plan should be tailored to fit individual needs of clients, while walking the client through each exercise.
Serves as a monitor and keeps clients focused and engaged throughout the work out plan.
Conducts appropriate health-screening assessments for all clients to determine if further medical evaluation is needed prior to beginning an exercise program.
Opens and closes the fitness facility according to the pre-approved hours of operation schedule.
Routinely inspects and performs preventative maintenance, proper cleaning/sanitizing duties, and notifies supervisor of needed repairs on exercise equipment.
Routinely records all fitness data and performs data entry into Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health systems software.
Assists in the development of fitness facilities policies and procedures and assists in the maintenance of a facility manual containing all applicable policies and procedures.
Enforces fitness facilities policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Assists with the advertisement of the fitness facilities by utilizing brochures, flyers, articles, calendars, and etc.
Assists with researching and development of fitness articles/flyers/material for outreach, promotion, newspapers, and etc.
Assists with planning and development of educational and resource material.
Designs culturally appropriate physical activity programs and special events for clients of all ages and genders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess at least one year of experience working within a fitness/wellness facility.
- Certified Exercise Specialist, ACE, ACSM (Preferred)
Must have the ability to interact and communicate with clientele of all ages.
Must have computer skills necessary to research and develop educational material.
Must have good knowledge to develop resources for both clients and health care providers.
Must possess certification in CPR, group instructions, personal training, or other related areas as identified within the program.
Must possess the ability to interact well with in-house and other agency professionals, including Tribal members and the public.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and work in a fast paced fitness area.
Must be able to perform the physical activity programs being given and assist clients as needed.
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license. .
- Must be able to pass a background check.
