GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

This position serves as a primary care and Nurse Practitioner for Absentee Shawnee Tribes Health Program. This involves the delivery of family oriented care services as well as provides general professional guidance of primary care staff. The Nurse Practitioner reports directly to the Medical Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Activities required in a usual ambulatory medical services setting.
  • Physical Duties assigned to this position involve bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying.
  • Mental and Personal:
    • Sound judgment and capability to respond to unusual circumstances.
    • Able to deal constructively with conflict.
    • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct varied and complex operations.
    • Practice medicine involving diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services.
    • Treat common disease, ailments, and injuries of persons visiting clinic, conduct periodic physical examinations, and provide preventative health according to reputably recognized standards of care.
    • Skilled in recognized various medical pathologies that require referral to specialists for specialized diagnostic and treatment procedures.
    • Provide direct care/services to neo-natal, pediatric, geriatric, adolescent and adult patients.
    • Cooperative in serving on various health programs committees and boards.
    • Willing to become proficient in use of electronic medical records and maintain acceptable standards of documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Nurse Practitioner
    • Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency.
    • Certification: Certification issued by the appropriate certifying body (i.e. American College of Nursing Association) as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Physician Assistant
    • Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
    • Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of backgrounds and training.
    • Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.
    • Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
    • Ability to communicate with other effectively both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work.
    • Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
    • Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of others (physicians, nurses, patients, and associates).
    • Knowledge of the cultural and social backgrounds of the Native American population.
    • Native American preference will be applied in the event of equally qualified applicants, but all qualified applicants will be considered.
  • Hazards:
    • Exposure to Health Hazards of the Health Industry. Knowledge of and enforcement of Exposure Control Plan.
  • Environment:
    • Environment must be maintained as clean, non-smoking, well-ventilated work area in adherence to all safety regulation.
    • Private homes and other facilities will not necessarily meet the criteria of the established safety regulations.
    • The Absentee Shawnee Health Programs is a Drug-Free Workplace in accord with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, P.L. 100-690, and has a Drug Free Workplace Policy in effect.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
