Native Youth T-Shirt Design Contest

In honor of Native American Heritage month, the Native Connections & SASP grants are hosting a Native Youth T-Shirt Design Contest for ages 12-24! The theme is “Strong, Resilient, Indigenous.”

 

Survey Responses Needed

We are still seeking responses. The AST Health System is involved in the 2021 Community Needs Assessment Survey. We’d appreciate your help in this important survey. Generally, a community health needs assessment is conducted every three years to ensure we continue to address both changes and challenges facing the community’s health.

Culture is Prevention Series Week 2

The Native Connections & SASP Grants are hosting a summer long “Culture is Prevention” series featuring new cultural outreach events each week! The second week’s event will be a free and virtual class on Thursday, June 3rd at 7:00 PM CST via GoToMeeting. In this class you will learn how to make a beaded medallion facilitated by Choctaw & Cheyenne and Arapaho artist, Asa Samuels.

 

An Evening with Tommy Orange

Today, May 25th at 7PM CST the Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Native Connections Grant will help facilitate a virtual event with Pulitzer Prize finalist and Cheyenne and Arapaho author, Tommy Orange, hosted by the Jacobson House Quarantine Diaries.

Online Art Tutorial with Theron Wahkinney

This Saturday, May 22nd at 3PM CST our Native Connections & SASP Grants will help facilitate an online event hosted by the Jacobson House Native Youth Art Show. Comanche and Kiowa artist, Theron Wahkinney, will be providing an introduction to acrylic painting and will discuss how to express yourself through art and tricks and tips for beginners.

NYPD Virtual Camp

Native Youth Preventing Diabetes (NYPD) will be hosting a 2021 Virtual NYPD Camp. Camp may look a little different again this year but we are still working on improving the health of our Native Youth with a week-long education series! We will be discussing diabetes prevention, nutrition education, physical activity, COVID-19 information from a provider in Oklahoma working with our youth and much more.

In this class you will learn how to make a beaded keychain facilitated by Comanche artist, Josh DeBartolo.

 

National Prevention Week Youth Virtual Scavenger Hunt Activity

Join the Native Connections & SASP Grants in a free and virtual scavenger hunt for SAMHSA’s National Prevention Week happening May 9-15, 2021. To participate simply download the GooseChase App on your phone, enter the game code, and complete missions to tally up points for a chance to win prizes! This activity is open to ages 12-24 years old and each participant will receive a free t-shirt simply for participating.
